I can't believe most rockabilly bands these days. What happened to them? They don't sound anything like rockabilly anymore, its just a punk band or something with a double bass. I mean, you don't have to stick with just the 50's sound, I love mixing sounds and styles of music. But a lot of these bands are so far from rockabilly that you wouldn't know they were rockabilly unless they said they were. The Blue Jean Rebels might not be the most authentic, but you can definitely tell that we play rockabilly haha. But nothing against punk or any other music styles out there, but they should advertise themselves as they really are.
Its funny the more I learn about rockabilly, that the more I study about music that came before, yes rockabilly is mostly country and 50's rock and roll, but there is so much influence that jazz has had on rockabilly. Look at Chuck Berry, with his rock and roll hit Johnny B. Goode, he copied the opening of an old jazz song called "Ain't that Just Like A Woman" don't believe me? check it out for yourself, he does go off into a solo after that, but he definitely used this opening line in the song
